Winding down from Summer Komikon 2016

You've got to keep plowing through...

Another Komikon come and past last 16th of April. Took me a week to recover from the haze and dizziness. :D

I had a great time. The con was condensed to one day this year. I think it was a better choice since hauling merchandise all weekend was killing me. :D Not to mention I had the arduous task of lugging around a mug heat press the whole time T_T. Errands...

Anywho, I was glad I was able to finish my first Anarchy Inc. comic book for public release. :) and I'm happy to say I managed to sell them all at the convention and then some. :D

It wasn't easy though. I was up all night before the con trying to staple the dozen copies I printed out. This was after a whole week of finishing the story and the art. I had to catch up since I wasted about a month and a half working for yet another company that had no idea what it was doing. Ugh.

But got through it. Yup. Broken and muddied, I got through it. And the moment people appreciated my work made it all worthwhile. So thanks again to the people who picked up my new book and the old ones as well.

Other great points from the con would be getting free comic books from a trivia contest and getting a picture with another of my favorite local artists: Pol Medina Jr.

Pol Medina Jr. is the creator of one of my favorite local comics: Pugad Baboy. (Pig's nest in English). It's about a town of rather chubby people living their typical Filipino lives. It's a great commentary about my country and it's issues as well as some epic stories mixed in. I wanted to buy another book from him at the con but then I realized I've read them all :)) I've been reading his work since I was 10 years old and here he is 17 years later. :D

Thanks Pol :)

One of my favorite issues because of Bardagul Kapote where Mang Dagul and Brosia become private investigators :D

Doing some reorganizing...

Cleaning up my blogs...

Hey everybody :D I was reading up on how to manage blogs and whatnot. So I've decided to organize my blog. I started this blog, Chuck the Cartoon Boy, as an art blog for my work. Also it helps to have my work online so I can cling on to this delusion that I can get paid for my work soon. :))

The good news is I'm making another blog dedicated to, yep you guessed it, GAMING. So check out my thoughts on games at mindyourgames.blogspot.com. Thanks to Extra Credits for making think more about my games and experiences.

Also moving my comic book reviews and thoughts to mindyourcomics.blogspot.com. I;m gonna have some words over the reactions on the Batman v Superman movie and on the movie itself once I watch it.

So that's about it. Hopefully you guys can keep watch over my new blogs as well. Also here's to me trying to finish making my new book before PH Komikon next week :D CHEERS!

SketchDump: 3/19/2016

Gonna get there one day...

Well, looks like I'm stuck at a BPO once again. Trying to get in as much creative work as I can. As much as I'd like to do my art for a living... there's stuff that needs to be paid off. Still trudging on with my comics and game ideas. Might try working on my animation skills soon but for now: Here's a sketch dump of my latest work:

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Thought I'd do another game play blog...

I've been trying my hand at Fire Emblem: Awakening for about a month now. I gotta say, I felt like I missed out on the previous versions. Fire Emblem is a series of turn-based strategy role playing games and they are pretty damn awesome.

I tried to figure out why I liked the game so much just like a lot people do. I did so by recalling some stuff I learned by watching episodes of Extra Credits on Youtube. I highly recommend this channel if you like games. They delve into the nuts and bolts as well as the spiritual essence of games and the gaming community.

Anyhoo, Fire Emblem has a bunch of great mechanics in it's game play. Because I learned, Mechanics is KING. The battles are great. It puts you right in the moment even if it is turn based. The urgency and pressure is palpable. This is mainly due to the "permadeath" feature where your characters can't come back if they get killed in a battle. It's a bit dark, I admit, but hell if doesn't make you invest more into the game.

And speaking of investment, I love the characters in Awakening. They're so fun and quirky. They tend to make you like them a lot so you wouldn't want to sacrifice any of them for a win. I find myself resetting over and over just because I misjudged a move and wound up paying for it.

I guess this plays well with the mechanic. It makes you care about these characters so you have to play better. The story itself does an admirable job of immersing me, as a player, in to the awesome world of the game. They give you amnesia so you can start in a blank state. It's been done countless times before and it's an effective way of introducing someone to a world they probably already live in but just forgot about.

The villains are aplenty and are just so annoyingly evil that smacking them down makes it so much more enjoyable.

There's more I would delve into but I don't think I'm even halfway through the game considering how much I grind my characters so I can unlock more of their skills and make sure they don't pass away in battle. There's the marriage and creating an offspring between characters which excites my romantic side. The job class advancements also interest me and there's the recruitment of all the characters.

But anyway I'm already hooked so I can understand why the game received a lot of hype. It's a well rounded game that gives players an awesome story, lovable characters and challenging but fun gameplay in a large immersive system.

Fire Emblem awakening gets a "DON'T YOU DIE ON ME... CLEAR.... *reset* out of ten".

Unlucky Ducky

The Unlucky Ducky Card Series

I dropped by a cool site a few weeks back called: http://neonmob.com/. It's all about trading cards with other users. I loved trading cards, most especially, trading card games.

I still have my binder of Pokemon Core Set cards. I didn't have a Charizard though. T_T It was hard to keep up alongside the pro players with my 6th grade allowance. However I did have my favorite Pokemon in my deck. (Gastly, Haunter and Gengar)

Neon mob still does a great job of recreating that feeling when you open a new booster pack and ups the ante by giving you some free packs everyday. The card collections they have are awesome pieces of art and some also have great themes like Starwars.

Anywhoo, I wanted to join in on the fun so I decided to make my own series for Neon Mob called : Unlucky Ducky. It's about a duck that always manages to be at the short end of the stick. I always loved how creative the death scenes were in games and cartoons. I'm looking at you Kenny McCormick and Crash Bandicoot. :D

I hope you guys get on Neon Mob and grab a pack of my new series when it comes out.

Fanart: Spike Spiegel

I wonder what Cowboy Bebop as a song Sounds like?

So working my way through the Cowboy Bebop series... Love the characters and the short stories :D Wanted to remake ol' Spike Spiegel in my cartoon style.

I guess the Space Bounty Hunter is a really fun character. He's laid back and a great Bruce Lee fan. I love the way he fights and love watching the animation when he does. All the other characters are also deep and great.

What's the best episode for you guys? Let me know in the comments.
